Welcome and Introduction

1.  Behavioral Guidelines for visit:

  • We are in the animals' neighborhood   
  • Stay on trails with your group unless taken off trails with class activity
  • Leave flowers and plants for animals (don't pick anything)
  • Pick up trail treasures to enjoy on-site, but no collecting-leave everything

  • Insulate
  • Hibernate
  • Migrate
  • Propagate
  • Generate (heat)
  • Congregate

Rotations

  1. Hibernation - Students visit a kid sized "bear den" to learn about the changes that enable animals to hibernate.
  2. Insulation - Students visit our injured and imprinted raptors and notice how birds insulate.   
  3. Propagation - Students observe insect galls on plants and discuss how insects make it through the winter.
  4. Congregation -  Students stand in lines apart, then closer together to show how ladybugs stay warm by congregating in winter.
  5. Migration - Students follow a trail and find pictures of animals that migrate
  6. Generation - Students make a pine cone bird feeder to take home for wintering birds.

Classroom Explore

Topics are covered by varying degrees depending upon the maturity of students and time constraints.
