The Ogden Nature Center presents FOR THE BIRDS...an annual outdoor exhibit of hand crafted and whimsical birdhouses and birdfeeders.  The Exhibit runs April 19 through August 31 and is open 9-5 Monday through Friday and 9-4 on Saturdays.  Regular admission rates apply.

There is no entry fee and all ages are encouraged to enter. For more information call 801-621-7595.

How to Enter

Bring your birdhouses with a completed entry form to Ogden NatureCenter, March 31 – April 5. Open 9-5 Monday-Friday and 9-4 Saturday.Entries will not be accepted after 4 pm, April 5. A maximum of twoentries per participant may be entered. No entry fee required.

Competition Goals 

The goals of this birdhouse competition and exhibit are to:

  • Encourage artistic and hand-crafted approaches to birdhouse design

  • Encourage construction of functional and aesthetically pleasingbirdhouses

  • Encourage the use of environmentally sensitive materials

  • Demonstrate ways to attract wildlife by creating unique backyardhabitats

  • Inspire creativity in backyard habitats

Entrants may visit Ogden NatureCenter to look at theinstallation site and to research birdhouse styles. Ogden NatureCenter has severalresources on creative birdhouses and construction requirements to attract avariety of birds.

Awards

An interdisciplinary jury will select several entries toreceive Jurors' Awards, one of which will be a children's award.

Special awards will be given for entries which are welldesigned as homes for birds and which incorporate recyclable and recycledmaterials and nontoxic finishes.

Exhibitors may designate whether their works are forsale.  All works must remain on displayfor the duration of the exhibit through August 31, 2008. Entries left at the Nature Centerafter that date will be considered a donation. Ogden NatureCenter will not chargecommission. 

Exhibit Guidelines

Exhibitors may submit up to two individual pieces. Allbirdhouses must be original works created by the exhibitor. Commerciallyproduced birdhouses or assembled kits will not be accepted.  OgdenNature Centerreserves the right to refuse submissions. There is no fee for entering.             

Birdhouses must be freestanding and ready for installationoutdoors. Birdhouses that are not freestanding will not be accepted fordisplay.  You must perch your birdhouseon the end of a post or attach a sturdy hanger.   We will install birdhouses on posts at adepth of 1-2 feet.

Liability

OgdenNature Centeris a secure facility with chain link fencing surrounding the property.  However, exhibitors are reminded thatbirdhouses will be installed outdoors in a wildlife sanctuary.  Works will be subject to wind, rain, sun andsevere weather, not to mention an occasional "avian guano bombing" by one ofour resident "fly-bys" such as songbirds, hawks, or Canadageese.

By entering the exhibition, the exhibitor acceptsresponsibility for displaying his or her birdhouse outdoors. Works are notinsured, and the OgdenNature Centeraccepts no responsibility for loss,  theftor damage.
