Wildlife Outreach Educator

The Ogden Nature Center seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated individual who enjoys working with animals to join our friendly staff as a full-time educator. The Ogden Nature Center is a 152-acre nature preserve and education center with a mission to unite people with nature and to nurture appreciation and stewardship of the environment. Applicant must be able to work independently and as part of a team in a casual yet professional working environment, and be comfortable presenting in front of audiences of all ages.

Duties:

  • Plan, prepare and present wildlife programs at Ogden Nature Center as well as off-site at schools, community venues and private gatherings       
  • Train, care for, and handle live birds of prey and reptiles    
  • Ensure that cages and enclosures are clean and maintained      
  • Create and maintain bird handling equipment including bracelets, jesses and leashes       
  • Schedule programs, keep records, and other administrative work related to position       
  • Other duties as assigned 
Requirements:
  • BA or BS in wildlife-related field; environmental education preferred
  • Knowledge of the principles of natural interpretation and knowledge of birds of prey and other wildlife of Utah       
  • Bird handling and teaching experience highly desirable       
  • Computer literate with experience using MS Word, Excel and other applications      
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others and as part of a team.  Ability to lead and work with volunteers       
  • Must be able to drive company van, have a current driver’s license and good driving record.  Insurance requires that staff must be 25 years or older to drive company vehicles       
  • Current Tetanus vaccination 

Physical Demands:       

  • Work outdoors in all weather       
  • Be able to walk long distances and be on your feet all day       
  • Willing to get dirty       
  • Able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds 
Hours and Benefits:      
  • 40 hours per week       
  • Somewhat flexible schedule, with frequent evenings and weekends required
