Wild Bird Releases, March 2008 PDF Print E-mail
The Ogden Nature Center Rehabilitation Program received 39 intakes in March.  Notable intakes include:  Peregrine Falcon, Barn Owl, Mountain Bluebird, Pygmy Owl, Golden Eagle, Snow Goose, and Western Screech owl among other more typical birds.

March Releases include:  Junco, 2 Sharp-shinned Hawk, California Quail, 2 American Kestrel, Virginia Rail, and American Robin.

During March, rehabilitation staff and volunteers attended a special Golden Eagle release, making national news, in honor of fallen soldiers.  The bird was rehabilitated by Patricia Richards, director of Great Basin Wildlife Rehabilitation, after it sustained severe head trauma from being hit by a truck.  Ogden Nature Center wildlife specialist DaLyn Erickson helped with the rehabiliation.  The release was held at Camp Williams, in Bluffdale, Utah.  More information can be seen in the article by Deseret News at  http://deseretnews.com/article/1,5143,695263911,00.html.

Unfortunately, the Bald Eagle in last month’s report was euthanized due to severe tissue damage and necrosis in her leg from being electrocuted.
