Adopt-a-Spot

Purpose

Help keep the Ogden Nature Center beautiful and preserve a designated adopt-a-spot area by pulling noxious plants and weeds, picking up garbage, and potentially planting and seeding! Adopt-a-spot volunteers are critical in helping to make the property presentable to visitors to enhance and       further the Ogden Nature Center’s mission to unite people with nature and nurture appreciation and stewardship of the environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Select a plot of land to take care of (plot sizes vary according to ability and interest)
  • Keep plot well cared for, visiting at least every 2-3 weeks
  • Tend to plot from April to first snow fall
  • Learn about weeds in your plot
  • Safely use tools and return them after you are done
  • Communicate with supervisor as to whether you would like to continue caring for your plot into the next season, or if there are changes in your availability

Length of Appointment

April to the first snow fall.

Time Commitment

Shifts and hours are flexible, though you are encouraged to visit at least every 2-3 weeks.

Qualifications

  • Willing to get dirty and have fun!
  • Basic knowledge of plants is a plus
  • Respectful of staff, visitors, and other volunteers
  • Dependable

Support

Volunteers will undergo an orientation and receive a volunteer handbook. In addition, adopt-a-spot volunteers will receive job-specific training with their direct supervisor.
