Uintah arrived via the Cedar City Animal Shelter on March 17, 2025. She was found in early March in the yard of her rescuer. Uintah was very lethargic and skinny. The shelter took her in and gave her the care she needed. After a waiting period with nobody claiming her as lost, the Nature Center was lucky enough to have her join the Animal Ambassador team. She helps our Outreach educators to teach about Mustelid species which are animals in the weasel family.

  • Average Weight: 1-4 pounds
  • Lifespan: up to 10 years

Fascinating Facts:

The ferret is a small, domesticated species belonging to the family Mustelidae. The ferret is most likely a domesticated form of the wild European Polecat, as evidenced by the ferret's ability to breed with the Polecat and produce hybrid offspring. Ferrets sleep about 18 hours a day. When awake they are very busy inspecting everything. They also steal items and cram them where you would never look. A very fun and curious animal.
