Preschool Programs
Join the Ogden Nature Center for a Kneehigh Naturalist class! Explore wildlife and nature through games, crafts, stories and live animal introductions that are age appropriate. This hour-long program is designed for preschoolers 3-5 years of age and their adult chaperones.
FALL 2026
September 1st and 2nd – Roots, Shoots, Springs & Sprouts - This semester, we're covering all four seasons, starting with SPRING. In the springtime, there's new growth, baby animals, and many colors. We'll go on a color walk, make flower crafts, and talk about baby animals that are born in the season of renewal.
October 6th and 7th – Leaves and Trees - Summer is the time when trees are thriving! In this class, we'll learn about leaf shapes through a leaf matching relay, find out what things come from trees, and make a tree painting with pom poms!
November 3rd and 4th – Prepare for Winter - Migrate through nature in autumn and find out how your feathered friends generate energy during the cold winter months. You'll even help them by taking home a pinecone bird feeder! Plus, you'll visit the bear den and get a feel for hibernation.
December 1st and 2nd – Frozen Landscapes: Crystals, Scapes & Snowflakes - Winter may be chilly, but it also brings beauty and wonder. We'll learn where snow comes from and where it goes when it melts, plus get a chance to play in the snow and maybe find out what animals got there before us. We'll also make salt crystal snowflakes to take home!
SPRING 2027
February 2nd and 3rd – The Shape of Nature: In this class, you’ll find out that nature comes in all shapes and sizes. Preserve the shape of leaves through leaf rubbings, match basic shapes to what’s out on the nature trail, and build your own shapes with twigs.
March 2nd and 3rd – Nature’s Numbers: There are a number of ways to have fun! In this class, you’ll do all sorts of fun counting and number activities, from bird watching to an obstacle course to a craft and story. Because nature counts!
April 6th and 7th – Seasonal Surprises: How does nature change through the seasons? Find out in this class where you’ll go on a hike to find signs of change, create an animal tracks key, and learn about the life of a tree throughout the year.
May 4th and 5th – Colorful Creatures: In this class, you’ll find the rainbow of colors in nature. You’ll play a game, match colors to nature, and complete a coloring craft. You’ll be surprised to find just out colorful the outdoors can be!

Cost
- Ogden Nature Center Members - $10 per child/parent
- Nonmembers - $12 per child/parent
- Groups (over 5 students) - $8 per child/parent
Classes for preschool groups (over 5 students) may be scheduled during the regular preschool time slots. The maximum number of students in one session is 30. Pre-registration is required! Call 801-621-7595. General admission fees will apply to any additional family members in attendance. Please register the estimated number of child/parent pairs expected to arrive, and we can adjust the registration payment day-of to reflect the actual number.
Please plan to arrive 5-10 minutes prior to the program to ensure a prompt start.
The intention of this program is to guide guardians and their children through activities to promote not only learning but also bonding. For this reason, a 1:1 ratio of adults to students is highly encouraged for this program to ensure that your children receive the best experience. If you have more than one student attending, please plan to bring an additional adult or sibling 13 years or older.
Sibling Policy: Siblings under 2 and babies in arms are free. Siblings will not participate in the activities or class as the class is aimed at the specific age group of 3-5 and supplies for activities are limited. Due to space limitations, we restrict the amount of additional, non-participating siblings to 1 per registration. Siblings 13 years or older may attend as a guardian if providing support to a student.
